Waimea Valley Audubon Park on Oahu, Hawaii

Waimea Valley Audubon Park on Oahu, Hawaii

Waimea Valley Audubon Center’s mission is to preserve the botanical, cultural and ecological resources of the prosperous Waimea Valley.

It offers visitors to Oahu, Hawaii various opportunities to discover the valley through elaborate guided tours, educational programs and mountain trails.

Back in 2006,  several public and private groups worked together to purchase Waimea Valley Park from a private developer. This move protected this valuable heritage property for future generations to come.

The acquisition of the 1,875-acre North Shore property, home to a world class botanical garden and a popular waterfall and pool, was made possible by a partnership of donors, consisting of the City & County of Honolulu, US Army, Office of Hawaiian Affairs, State Department of Land and Natural Resources, and the National Audubon Society.

Under the terms of the agreement, OHA will assume ownership of the land and will manage it in partnership with the Audubon Society. The Hawaii park will henceforth be known as Waimea Valley Audubon Center.

Many residents and tourists are familiar with the beautiful front 300 acres of the park, where the garden and waterfall are located. But the land included in the ahupua’a of Waimea consists of more than 1,500 additional acres of “back country,” that regular visitors to the park never see.

Lovers who desire to catch a glimpse of rare birds, flowers and butterflies are up for a treat in this Hawaiian paradise.

Chivas 18 by Pininfarina from Ultra-Premium Scottish Whisky – Chivas Regal

Chivas 18 by Pininfarina Mascherone - Chivas Regal
Chivas 18 by Pininfarina – Chivas Regal

The ultra-premium Scottish whisky, Chivas Regal, and Italian designer, Pininfarina, joined forces to create Chivas 18 by Pininfarina Limited Editions, which rolled out January 2, 2013 in over 30 countries.

The series includes two Chivas 18 collectible display cases and one made-to-order display unit, an artistic piece of furniture hand crafted in Italy by Pininfarina. Each includes a bottle of Chivas 18 with Pininfarina’s design notes and Italian company logo proudly displayed. The limited edition design theme is “The Drop” which dictates the shape of the pieces.

The first edition from Chivas Regal, based on a streamlined drop, a delicate shape in a rich blue metallic finish with a wood veneer, represents the oak barrels used during the aging process of Chivas 18, capturing 85 flavors in each drop. Chivas 18 by Pininfarina Limited (Edition 1) is priced at $145.

The second edition features a larger drop shaped case and solid wood inlay. Included are the limited edition bottle along with two glasses each individually numbered to symbolize the exclusive status. Chivas 18 by Pininfarina Limited (Edition 2) is priced at $585.

The third edition, with its smooth sleek shape, incorporates both Chivas 18 and Pininfarina’s values in luxury designs as well as the collection’s drop theme. This elegant piece of furniture features an oak internal structure, covered in aluminum. A light at the base brings this creative piece to life.  At this time, the retail price is still unknown.

Chairman of Pininfarina, Paolo Pininfarina said: “Italian style means a sense of proportion, simplicity and harmony of line and we applied this sensibility to the designs we developed for Chivas 18.”

“The Gathering” is Ireland’s Yearlong Celebration of Culture and Tradition

Cliffs of Moher - Ireland
Cliffs of Moher

“The Gathering” is Ireland’s yearlong celebration of the incredible Emerald Isle. It showcases the unique culture and long standing tradition of Ireland.

To experience the best of Irish arts, culture and fun, consider enjoying the country’s major festivals and clan gatherings. The “The Gathering” started with unforgettable New Year’s Eve bash in Dublin.

There are over 70 million people around the world that claim Irish ancestry, so now you can join the celebration with Trafalgar, the Insider of guided vacations, as they offer 9 trips heading to the culture-rich Emerald Isle.

Below are several amazing trip options to fully enjoy “The Gathering” celebration in Ireland:

Best of Ireland
An 11-day journey to the most interesting and picturesque parts of the country, Trafalgar’s Best of Ireland trip is a comfortably-paced vacation starting and ending in Dublin. The trip makes overnight stops in Sligo, Limerick, Killarney and Cork, as well as day stops in Blarney, Kilkenny, Galway and the Cliffs of Moher to name a few. Following a Welcome Reception with a traditional Irish meal and drinks in a pub, guests spent the next day seeing the sights in Dublin and visiting the Guinness Storehouse for an included tour of the famous brewery before exploring the city on their own. On the journey to Cork, guests stop at the Irish National Stud farm, dedicated to rearing world-class thoroughbreds. It’s all sightseeing and marveling in the beauty of the Emerald Isle for the next few days, spending two nights in Killarney and two in Sligo before heading back to Dublin for a Farewell Dinner with wine at a local restaurant with fellow travelers.

Scenic Ireland
The 9-day Scenic Ireland was introduced in 2012 as a new At Leisure itinerary, quickly becoming a popular choice for travellers. With a focus on taking clients to the most picturesque parts of the country, Scenic Ireland offers up the perfect opportunity to explore the Irish countryside at a relaxed pace. The trip starts with a few days in lively Dublin, where guests will receive a morning tour with a local guide then enjoy a day of free time to explore the city by themselves with a hop-on-hop-off sightseeing ticket. Next, a visit to Blarney Castle means guests can get the Irish gift of gab as they tilt themselves upside down to kiss the infamous Blarney Stone. At the breathtaking Dingle Peninsula, Europe’s most westerly point, Trafalgar passengers are treated to a special Be My Guest dinner on a beautiful family-owned farm, where they will dine with locals and savour traditional Irish fare. Traveling on to Killaloe on Lough Derg, clients will finish their journey with a Guinness stew and soda bread cooking demonstration, which they’ll get to enjoy afterwards.

Irish Experience
On the 12-day Irish Experience trip, Trafalgar guests get to see all of the Emerald Isle as they visit Northern Ireland and spend nights in Londonderry and Belfast. Beginning and ending in Dublin, the trip also
stops at Ballina, Galway, Killarney and Waterford along the way. This itinerary is chock-full of incredible insider experiences, from a visit to the new Titanic Belfast Visitor Centre to learn about the history of the world’s most famous ship to zipping around Belfast in a Black Cab with a Local Expert ‘Cabbie’. In Waterford, clients will get an opportunity to visit the iconic House of Waterford Crystal to watch master craftsmen at work. In Dublin, a day spent sightseeing with a Local Guide is followed by an evening cruise along the city’s 200-year-old Grand Canal. Guests will also get to appreciate the country’s natural beauty with a visit to the Giant’s Causeway, an area of 40,000 interlocking basalt columns on the northern shore that has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site and which Trafalgar is involved in the preservation of through their parent company’s Treadright Foundation.

House of Martell Cognac – L’OR de Jean Martell “Dome”

House of Martell cognac - L'OR de Jean Martell Dome
          House of Martell cognac

The House of Martell is pleased to reveal the luxury gift box (called the “Dôme”) of L’OR de Jean Martell, a prestigious cognac, the most complex blend of the Martell Range.

Cognac is brandy, and is also called eau de vie. It is produced by doubly distilling white wines produced in any of the designated growing regions.

Martell gave Eric Gizard, French interior architect and designer, the task of creating a special box to further enrich L’OR de Jean Martell, the result of a series of “rare encounters”. The combination of Grande Champagne and Borderies creates a unique blend of elegance, power, and richness.

This elegant box designed by Eric Gizard matches the sophistication of the blend and allows you to carry and display this most beautiful gem in its collection. Called upon for his creativity, the main idea behind the bottle was to surround L’OR de Jean Martell with several skins that would gradually lead to the cognac and make a ritual out of serving it.

The result is dramatic. The Sèvres Crystal decanter is presented under a Dome, which itself is sheathed in a delicate cover of fine-grain leather and the metallic luster of a lid which sits perfectly enshrined within its container. When the carafe is beneath its Dome, it is topped by a transport cap, but once it is displayed, the formal crystal cap returns to its original place.

When Eric Gizard launched the Dome to retail outlets he applied his presentation concept using a back-lit display case to showcase the warm color of the cognac, with its mahogany tints. A concave mirror behind the carafe creates a stunning optical effect and highlights the crystal decanter in the simplest way, as if levitating above its base.

Discover L’OR de Jean Martell visuals on site in prestigious places such as Le Lucien bar at Fouquet’s in Paris or Les Airelles hotel in Courchevel.
