Casinos on the Vegas Strip, Non-Stop Gaming Action

Las Vegas casino poker playing cards

For many people when they think about Las Vegas the first thing that comes to mind is the casinos. Say the Las Vegas Strip and the vivid image of bright lights and gaming tables gets even stronger for most people.

On the world famous Las Vegas Strip, you will find so many of the things which have come to represent Las Vegas, the hotels, the casinos and the resorts.

If you have come to play poker then this is the place to be and if you have come to stay in some of the largest hotels in the world then you’ll find them here.

In fact there’s an amazing fact about the luxury hotel in Las Vegas. 19 out the world’s 25 largest hotels can be found on the strip!

That’s a total of over 67,000 rooms, so there’s plenty of room for everyone, regardless of what style or theme you enjoy.

The first casino in Las Vegas was built on Highway 91 in 1931, however the first on the strip itself was the El Rancho Vegas which had 63 rooms and opened in 1941.

The El Rancho Vegas hotel was around for nearly 20 years until it was destroyed in a fire. The hotel’s legacy has lived on and helped spawn all the hotels there are today.

People could see the monetary benefits of opening a casino on the strip. Perhaps most notably Bugsy Siegel, who you may have heard of in reference to being an organized crime figure, became interested and opened a couple of resorts there.

After that, the Las Vegas casinos just kept on coming as did the world-class hotels and resorts.

Today Las Vegas has the highest concentration of casinos in the U.S. And with these casinos, come the many visitors who want to experience the excitement of Las Vegas, including the bright lights, entertainment and all the fun times to be by all.

Available Sundays through Thursdays for $999, the package includes classic hair styling and makeup application in the renowned Cristophe Salon, an elegantly designed, all-white bouquet and matching groom’s boutonniere, beautiful keepsakes and the Hollywood Glamour Photography Package.

The special photography package completes the wedding experience by providing the bride and groom with their choice of 24 images taken throughout the ceremony and during a professional photo session with vintage-style, dramatic lighting resembling the couple’s favorite 1940′s movies.

Tuscan Romance
For a touch of Italian elegance, couples and guests can overlook the stunning views of a Tuscan landscape with a Mediterranean-blue lake and watch the Fountains of Bellagio soar to the sky at the moment of the long-awaited first kiss. Terrazza di Sogno, or The Terrace of Dreams, at Bellagio offers couples wanting the perfect outdoor wedding a chance to exchange vows on an Italian balcony with toasted marble flooring and walls tinted a warm golden patina, creating an unrivaled romantic locale.

To make sure the day runs flawlessly, a professional wedding coordinator is appointed to each couple to assist in making arrangements including dinner reservations at Bellagio’s gourmet restaurants, guest room reservations for the wedding party and assistance with the wedding reception.

A Hot Love Story

End of An Iconic Era – Sahara Hotel and Casino Closing

Sahara Hotel and Casino- Las Vegas
Sahara Hotel and Casino

Another iconic hotel has closed on the famous Las Vegas Strip – Sahara Hotel and Casino.

Last Monday, the Sahara Hotel and Casino closed its doors for good.

The Sahara will always be remembered as one of the Rat Pack’s favorite hangouts. In addition, the Sahara was the hotel Elvis Presley once stayed during his filming of the hit movie “Viva Las Vegas.”

After being open for over 59 years and offering $1 hot dogs and $1 blackjack, the Sahara Hotel and Casino will no longer be offering the best rates on the The Strip.

In the past, as older casinos (e.g. Stardust, Boardwalk and Landmark) have been closed and demolished, new developments have taken their place with more glitz and glamor. The future of the Sahara site reminds a big question mark.

As the end neared, visitors to the Shara walked through the casino and bought up a variety of souvenirs at the gift shop and tried their luck gambling one last time.

Over the six decades the Sahara Hotel and Casino was in business, a long list of celebrities have either stayed their or performed.

The casino’s first performance was actually from Ray Bolger, the scarecrow from “The Wizard of Oz.”

The Beatles also stayed at the Sahara when they performed in Las Vegas.

KA – Cirque du Soleil

Las Vegas is currently presenting seven different Cirque du Soleil productions, including the MGM Grand, O at Bellagio, Mystere at Treasure Island, Zumanity at New York-New York, The Beatles Love at the Mirage, Criss Angel Believe, and the new Viva Elvis at the Aria Resort & Casino.

KÀ is definitely one of the must-see Cirque shows in Las Vegas, and likely the most elaborate and spectacular theatrical presentation you will ever see, anywhere!

The KA story is a simple, but riveting one. It tells the trials of a prince and princess and how their idyllic kingdom is attacked by the ruthless forces of another, rival empire.

Cirque du Soleil has been presenting amazing shows in Las Vegas for several decades. KA is special, Ka is mesmerizing, KA is a once in a life-time experience.

Cirque du Soleil’s KA opened its successful run in February of 2005. It’s been reported that cost of the massive construction project at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino ran about $220 million.

Ka Storm

The theater is massive and holds 1,950 seats, all offering terrific views of the gigantic stage. The seats are very comfortable and equipped with surround sound speakers so you can enjoy all the show’s music and sounds.

KA delivers an intense display of breathtaking acrobatics, blended with unbelievable theater stage mechanics. What makes KA stand out from other shows, is the unique stage. It’s a living stage, with two giant platforms in addition to five smaller ones.

These movable platforms provide the appearance of floating. As the centerpiece of the show, everything else literally revolves around it.

KA is an Asian-inspired production and the storyline of KA follows the lives of imperial twins who were separated in their youth. The two then begin a journey of discovery.

Along the way, the twins have to survive violent ocean storms, battling an array of evil enemies and amazing creatures.

A strong trait of any Cirque show, is how blending of unbelievable choreography with compelling music. But the true star of the show is the stage.

It’s quite amazing how the set changes occur seamlessly, particularly since it’s so massive in size. One moment it’s a warship or rotating beach, then a warrior hut, or an incredible horizontal wall where the actors engage in an acrobatic battle that defies words.

KA Battle
Courtesy of: Cirque du Soleil, MGM Grand

There are several stunning scenes. Early in the show, a floating stage appears covered in sand. A human-sized crab and turtle arise to begin playing and dancing. As the scene ends, the Sand Cliff Deck slowly tilts forward. You then realize that sand starts to fall off the edge. The audience is entranced as the sand accelerates until every grain is gone and the stage ends up completely vertical!

The battle on the vertical stage (above) was another highlight. The actors engage in a nail-biting fight, maneuvering on climbing pegs. Not only does the stage go fully vertical but is also rotates. The chase ensues as both combatants and creatures fly all around the revolving platform, banging into each other like a pinball machine, then falling off the edge into oblivion.

But my favorite scene was The Wheel of Death in the Slave Cage (below). I wasn’t alone, as the crowd ooh’d and ahh’d in unison. It’s comprised of five performers and two separate sets of circular cages, which rotate on a common axle. In an incredible moment, one of the performers climbs out and on top of one of the rotating cages. To our amazement, he begins jumping rope as it spins around at a fast rate. What a sight!

KA Slave Cage

The entire stage production is so innovative and authentic. The attention to detail, acrobatic performers, Capoeira dance, the incredible costumes, martial arts, gymnasts and puppets, heart pounding music, symbolic use of fire …. all overwhelm your senses.

But together, they make KA a truly memorable show.
