Argos Gulfstream – Argos G92 Luxury Yacht

Tricon Marine successfully completed offshore sea trials for its 92-foot (28-meter) Argos Gulfstream (“Argos G92”), the first vessel from the company’s new limited-edition series of luxury, offshore performance yachts.

The Argos G92 delivered impressive fuel efficiency, burning only 8gph at 8.5 knots (better than one nautical mile per gallon). With her 4,000 gallon fuel capacity she has very long legs for trans-Atlantic crossings.

She proved 27 knot top speeds. In various sea states, high-speed cruise was a consistent 23 knots (+/- 0.5kt), described as “effortless” with less than 70% engine load. At high-speed cruise, running time was calculated at 35 hours continuous operation without refueling.

“We tested the Argos G92 in real-world Gulf Stream conditions off the Florida coast, in choppy seas exceeding six feet,” said Christos Livadas, Chairman and CEO of Tricon Marine, builder of the Argos series. “She turned in a lively performance, exceeding the highest expectations for speed, fuel efficiency, and comfortable handling.”

The tests were performed in 90-degree temperatures and high humidity suggesting that on a standard day her performance capabilities may do better.

The Argos G92 sits square on her lines at anticipated displacement, weighing in at 155,000 lbs light and approximately 190,000 lbs fully loaded, as prescribed by the original design.

Her numbers at sea trial were very close to those demonstrated during extensive tank tests performed at BC Research in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

The Argos G92 is equipped with one of the first hybrid hulls ever developed. Co-designed by renowned hydro-engineer/marine architect Howard Apollonio and the company’s internal design team, it bestows her with speed, range and greater seaworthiness.

With a rounded V entry, the Argos G92 glides through the water effortlessly at displacement speeds and cuts through challenging head seas at higher cruising speeds. Her hard chines aft keep her stable at lower speeds and allow her to plane easily and achieve speeds much higher than those typically associated with “displacement” boats.

The Argos G92 sets new standards in versatility in her range of use, whether it be racing to the Bahamas for a weekend, or making long journeys to the far corners of the globe. Finally, one yacht can do it all.

Hermes and Wally Building a Revolutionary Luxury Yacht

WHY yacht By Hermes & Wally

French fashion giant Hermes, who is known around the world for its luxury Birkin handbags and silk scarves, is now branching out into another luxury product line … revolutionary luxury yachts.

Luxury clothing designer Hermes and Monaco based yacht maker Wally are collaborating together and developing the ultimate luxury yacht.

The yacht by Wally-Hermes Yachts, will be named “WHY” for short. It will be the first yacht for Hermes who have previously helped design a luxury helicopter and a collection of smart cars.

Naval architect Mauro Sculii said: “The advantage of traveling on the WHY boat is that you take your own space with you, your house, your island so you are not in a hurry to arrive, you just have the pleasure of traveling and being on board. That’s the novelty. Usually a boat is just a means of transport.”

The WHY yacht will come equipped with the latest high tech amenities, gorgeous modern design and spacious living dimensions.

The two companies unveiled a real-size model of the 38-metre (125ft) wide vessel late last month in Ancona, Italy.

Gabriele Pezzini, Design Director of Hermes said: “The designers wanted to totally rethink the relationship between man and sea.”

What makes WHY so unique is its size. Instead of a traditional tapered stern, the WHY has a sheared off appearance. This design gives access to a naturally-lit spa, which includes a traditional Turkish Hammam.

Luca Bassini, founder of design company Wally said: “I think the best part of this boat is the stern. It’s not like the usual stern of a boat, it’s more like the real beach of an island; a beach which is protected from the wind and the waves, where you can really relax.”

Prelim Launch of Roman Abramovich’s Mega-Yacht “Eclipse”

Roman Abramovich luxury yacht "Eclipse"

Earlier this summer, a new mega-yacht finally made its preliminary launch. Owned by Russian oligarch, Roman Abramovich, the mega-yacht named “Eclipse” was launched at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany.

The yacht “Eclipse” was built under extreme secrecy over the last two years. The mega-yacht is estimated to have cost around $500 million and his planned to be complete by 2010.

The “Eclipse” is about 170 meters or 557 feet long, and loaded with safety features such as Abramovich’s armor-plated master suite and the bullet-proof windows. The yacht’s submarine can also be used as escape pod.

Now becoming the largest mega-luxury yacht, it exceeds the 525-foot luxury yacht owned by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Roman Abramovich is owner of the Chelsea soccer team. An engineer who had worked on the “Eclipse”  stated, “Abramovich wanted everything top of the range, from the toilet roll holders to the sound system. It has all been custom-built for him with a multi-million dollar defense system. Attackers don’t stand a chance.”

The “Eclipse” has living space for 24 guests, with a crew of 70. The mega-yacht weighs 13,000 tons, and can achieve a top speed of 33 knots with a cruising speed of 22 knots. The “Eclipse”  offers guests two swimming pools, a movie theater and a dance floor.

The “Eclipse” yacht will become the fourth boat belonging to Roman Abramovich’s fleet. Flaunting his wealth, Abramovich often entertains prospective Chelsea soccer players and powerful British bankers on his yachts.

The 42-year-old owner, plans to board his new boat next summer and cruise to next World Football Championship, which will occur in South African Republic.

Dubai – World’s Most Expensive Yacht

dubai expensive yacht

The Jacht was originally a lightweight Dutch naval vessel used to pursue pirates in shallow waters. When King Charles II chose to sail in one on his return to England in what would later be known as the English Restoration, the Jacht became a symbol of important and, eventually, wealth and luxury.

Today, that tradition is still quite alive and nothing demonstrates that fact better than the most expensive yacht in the world.

The most expensive yacht has gone by three names since its inception—Platinum 525, Golden Star and, most recently, Dubai. The Platinum 525 was commissioned by Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei in 1996, but a lack of funds caused the project to be abandoned a scant couple of years later.

In 2001, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, then Crown Prince and now ruler of Dubai, took over the project and renamed it the Golden Star. Since its recent completion, it has reportedly been sold and rechristened once again.

Dubai, as it is now called, is as expansive as it is expensive. The 525 foot yacht features an owner’s suite, five VIP suites and a number of guest bedrooms. The bridge features the captain’s quarters, an office and a lounge. The foyer and atrium connects each deck while lighting them from above via skylight. The luxury yacht is powered by four diesel engines with over 9,000 horsepower altogether.

Dubai’s $300 million price tag not only lives up to the boat’s namesake, where many of the world’s most expensive projects have taken place, but also ensures its place as the world’s most expensive yacht.
